Comedian Sarah Silverman tweeted the words that many viewers were thinking, “I’m reading SOTU but I’m seeing STFU.”
Hollywood blasted President Donald Trump and his State of the Union address Tuesday night.
During his speech, Trump spoke about his stance on many important issues, including abortion, healthcare, trans rights, foreign policy and immigration (can’t forget about the wall!). His words, of course, didn’t go over so well with many people, especially celebrities.
Alyssa Milano was one of the more vocal stars that slammed Trump’s speech. The actress criticized many things that the President spoke about in the address and like many women, she wasn’t happy with Trump’s statements about abortion.
"Every day, women across America face deeply personal decisions of whether or not to continue a pregnancy," Milano tweeted. "Instead of respecting rights, anti-choice politicians resort to inflammatory, shaming rhetoric. We must stand for freedom. #StateOfTheWoman #WeWontGoBack."
@RealDonaldTrump and his minions in the @GOP want to take away the most fundamental freedom women have: freedom of their own bodies," she added in another post. "Government doesn’t get any bigger than when it is in a uterus. Stand for choice. Stand for freedom. #StateOfTheWoman #WeWontGoBack"
Alice Marie Johnson, the prisoner that Kim Kardashian helped free, attended the address. In response, the reality star tweeted, "So proud!!! @AliceMarieFree at the SOTU!!!!" Bette Midler, who seemed to have live-tweeted the event, added, "#kimkardashian got Alice her pardon. Good for her."
The Broadway singer went after Trump in her social media rant. "How’d he get from childhood cancer to school choice? What a leap! Now Ivanka gets her shoutout…now we’re on to abortion…who wrote this stuff??," she wrote, adding in another tweet, "Boy, they couldn’t get out of there fast enough!! A stampede to the exits as the exhausted audience rushes to the nearest open bar. I know I did."
Actor John Cusack called the event a "horror" to watch, while Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (a.k.a AOC), who is classified as a democratic socialist, named the address as an "embarrassment" to the U.S. "Tonight was an unsettling night for our country," she added. "The president failed to offer any plan, any vision at all, for our future."

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has started to become a popular meme after the photo of her applauding Trump after the speech went viral. In the pic, Pelosi puts her hands out to Trump while clapping, but she had a sassy look on her face. As actor Patton Oswalt wrote, "Congrats to @SpeakerPelosi for inventing the ‘f–k you’ clap. #sotu."
The Twitter account of Trevor Noah’s late-night show "The Daily Show" also made a joke about the photo, writing it was "not the first time Trump has got the clap."
