Actress and mother of two, Mila Kunis, revealed she became a better parent when she returned to work after having her first child. Continue reading to learn why the 36-year-old felt her career helped her in the parenting department.
Kunis is married to her That ‘70s Show co-star Ashton Kutcher. The two met on the show as teenagers (she was 14, he was 19) but didn’t start dating until 2012 when they reconnected at an awards show after-party. They welcomed a daughter, Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher, in 2014 and two years later welcomed a son, Dimitri Portwood Kutcher.
Both Kutcher and Kunis have been open about the ups and downs of parenthood during interviews. In one such interview with Kutcher’s own A Plus (he co-founded the site), Kunis got very frank about what happened when she went back to work after giving birth to her daughter, according to HuffPost.
Why Kunis felt ‘going back to work’ made her ‘a better mom’
In a July 2016 interview with A Plus, Kunis opened up about feeling like a failure being away from Wyatt when she returned to acting.
“I felt like I was failing as a mother because I wasn’t there for her every minute of the day,” she said.
Over time she learned being away from her daughter made her appreciate the time they had together even more.
“It took me a little while to realize that I was a better mom going back to work because when I was with her, I was present 100 percent,” Kunis said.
Kunis on what it takes to be ‘a great mom’
Later in the interview The Spy Who Dumped Me actress explained what she considered to be the definition of a “great mom.”
“If you are with your kid and you are present, and you are there and you’re engaged, and you care, then you’re a great mom,” she said.
She continued, saying there’s no such thing as the “perfect mom.”
“It’s so taboo to be like, ‘I feel like I’m not perfect,’” she said. “You just have to know you’re doing the best you can, and that’s more than enough. I know I’m the best mom Wyatt’s ever had, and I’m the best mom for her.”
Will Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have more kids?
During a March 2017 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Kunis said why she and Kutcher liked having two children.
“We’re good on two right now,” Kunis said. “We’re solid. It’s perfect, it’s like, great, you know? I have two really healthy, really wonderful kids. Why test my luck?”
She then expanded on why two kids are just right for her and 41-year-old Kutcher.
“[With two kids] you’re running defense a little bit, like, one’s got one and the other’s got one and it’s OK. I think it’s when it becomes three is when you’re like, you’re just playing offense …You’re scrambling trying to keep them all in line.”
So, don’t expect Kutcher and Kunis to add to their brood of two soon.
