You might think that great legs are down to good genetics, but supermodel Elle Macpherson has revealed there are things you can do to improve your pins too.

From cleaning up your diet to flushing out puffiness with water and body scrubbing in hot and cold showers to get rid of cellulite, the 55-year-old has a host of tips and tricks to help your legs look and feel their best.

Elle said the most important things for her are lots of water, vinyasa yoga, seven or eight hours sleep and regular infrared saunas.

She also swears by a predominantly alkaline diet, which Elle said affects the ‘look and feel of legs’.

‘In the past, when I have had sugar, salt and wheat, my legs have looked healthier,’ Elle wrote in her monthly Get The Gloss column. 

Nowadays, she makes sure she eats ‘mainly vegetables’ and a lot of water, and said she has noticed ‘the shape of my legs change for sure’.

When it comes to combatting puffiness and cellulite, Elle said she disperses any fluid retention by ‘drinking water throughout the day and with outdoor exercise’.

‘One of my favourite moves is lying on the floor and stretching my legs up against the wall,’ she said. 

Elle also walks ‘waist or thigh deep’ in water, which similarly helps with a build up of fluid retention. 

Body scrubs in both hot and cold showers are the best cures for removing cellulite, Elle said, while an infrared sauna helps with skin texture and lymphatic drainage.

Elle said she loves products by The Lost Explorer such as the Arnica and Wintergreen Movement Massage Balm, alongside the Everyday Support Balm.

The model also dry brushes her legs and uses body scrubs in the shower. 

‘I use lavender and chamomile aromatherapy oils, do yoga poses such as legs-up-the-walls pose and I take magnesium foot baths and soak in Epsom salts to soothe tired legs,’ she said. 

The 55-year-old mother is a fan of Better You Foot and Body Soak Magnesium Flakes for deep and healing bath soaks.

Lastly, Elle revealed the clothes and shoes that will make your legs look their best.

She said she is a huge fan of trousers, especially full-length, which help to elongate her legs even more – and her go-to designers are J. Brand and Superfine jeans. 

‘I wear heels a lot, but only quality ones from Louboutin, Aquazurra or Giuseppe Zanotti,’ she said.

However, the six foot model said she is also a fan of flats, primarily because she likes to be able to look people in the eye when she is talking to them.
