DEAR DEIDRE: MY husband becomes very aggressive at anything I say. Over the last couple of years he’s started taking offence easily and twists everything.
I’m 67 and my husband is 75. We’ve been married for 35 years. He won’t talk about things, he just walks away. He’s in denial about how he behaves and just says everything is my fault.
He always has to be right. I’m becoming more and more frustrated by his negative attitude.
I only have to say that he’s filled the bath up so high it risks running over and he hits the roof, demanding to know why I am watching him.
He comes right up to my face with angry, bulging eyes. I am afraid he will strangle me sometimes.
He never says sorry and seems to have no empathy for me. I’ve been thinking of leaving him.
DEIDRE SAYS: If his behaviour has changed drastically, encourage him to see his GP, or have a word with the doctor yourself.
Behavioural changes alongside problems with memory, disorientation or decision making could be early signs of dementia.
