The four Masterchef finalists charmed viewers last night when they dropped everything to help each other through the trickiest tasks to date.

When faced with cooking for some of Hong Kong’s culinary elite, three out of the four contestants struggled with their complicated dishes – but were saved from ruin by their fellow amateur cooks.

The first challenge took place at Lung King Heen, the first Cantonese restaurant in the world to be awarded three Michelin stars, where the final four had to master one of Hong Kong’s most ancient food traditions – dim sum.

Each contestant was tasked with recreating one of the d im sum on the restaurant’s menu to serve to specially invited diners.

To help the finalists make sense of the ancient cuisine they were mentored by the restaurant’s Executive Chef, Chef Chan Yan Tak.

Next, the amateurs worked with Chef Vicky Lau at her Michelin star restaurant, Tate Dining Room.

Finally, the finalists faced the daunting challenge of creating an exceptional dinner at the five-star Kerry Hotel for mentors Chef Tak and Vicky Lau as well as some of the leading figures in Hong Kong’s food and cultural community.

Later in the episode banker Irini was brought to tears by her dessert – Three Isles on a plate

Inspired by their Hong Kong culinary adventure and showcasing the skills they have developed through their entire MasterChef journey, the finalists were told their dishes must be truly exceptional for them to to stand out and prove they have what it takes to be crowned MasterChef Champion 2019.

But the pressure appeared to be getting to the contestants, with the normally calm Jilly burning her dumplings, Delia struggling to get everything done and Irini having a meltdown over her ambitious dessert.

When Jilly, a history teacher from Scotland, burned her dumplings, fellow contestant Delia jumped to her rescue.

But viewers at home were touched when the four finalists came together to help their colleagues snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

When Jilly, a history teacher from Scotland, burned her dumplings, fellow contestant Delia jumped to her rescue.

She said: ‘What can we do?’

A flustered Jilly replied: ‘You’ve got stuff still to do, haven’t you?’

Competitor Irini added: ‘Jilly, what can I do to help?’

As an aside to the camera, judge Greg Wallace commented on the unprecedented team work from the finalists.

He said: ‘You’ve got to love these guys as a team, this is really great team work. This is great to see.’

Later in the episode banker Irini was brought to tears by her dessert – Three Isles on a plate, featuring Greek donuts stuffed with red bean paste, trifle and a Hong Kong- inspired coconut gel with plum puree.
