Miley Cyrus Slide Away lyrics: Here’s everything that relates to Liam Hemsworth

Following the shock news that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth had split, Miley was straight back in the studio recording a break-up track, which she released on Friday.

In her new song Slide Away, Miley addresses the breakdown of her marriage after eight months, which comes amid rumours the reason for their split was down to Liam’s ‘partying’.

A source close to Miley told TMZ she ‘tried valiantly to save the marriage and the dealbreaker was that Liam was drinking a lot and using certain drugs’, things his friends have denied to be true.

In Slide Away, Miley sings: ‘I want my house in the hills, don’t want the whiskey and pills. I don’t give up easily, but I don’t think I’m down’, which seemingly alludes to the reported cause of their split.

Another lyric which rings very true to life is: ‘Move on, we’re not 17, I’m not who I used to be. You say that everything changed, you’re right, we’re grown now’.

The couple met when Miley was 17 years old on the set of The Last Song, a movie they were both starring in, and subsequently started dating.

Miley also sings about ‘harbour lights’ and says: ‘So won’t you slide away, back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights’, which seem to allude to Liam’s Australian heritage and her life in Los Angeles.

The couple had been together since 2009, splitting and calling off their engagement in 2013 before getting back together in 2016.

They married in a secret ceremony in December 2018, but called time on their relationship in August 2019 after there had been rumours of a possible break up looming.

Miley was then spotted kissing Kaitlynn Carter – Brody Jenner’s ex-wife – aboard a yacht before heading to the studio to lay down her new track.

As well as being a brilliant new song, Slide Away would have been a great way of Miley channelling her feelings about the split into her music, too.

Miley Cyrus Slide Away Lyrics

[Intro]

Woo-ooh, woo-ooh, woo-ooh

Woo-ooh, woo-ooh, woo-ooh

[Verse]

Once upon a time, it was paradise

Once upon a time, I was paralyzed

Think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights

But it’s time to let it go

Once upon a time, it was made for us

Woke up one day, it had turned to dust

Baby, we were found, but now we’re lost

So it’s time to let it go

[Pre-Chorus]

I want my house in the hills

Don’t want the whiskey and pills

I don’t give up easily

But I don’t think I’m down

[Chorus]

So won’t you slide away

Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights

So won’t you slide away

Back to the ocean, la-la-la, you’ll slide away

So won’t you slide away

Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights

So won’t you slide away

Back to the ocean, la-la-la, you’ll slide away

[Verse]

Once upon a time, it was paradise

Once upon a time, I was paralyzed

Think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights

But it’s time to let it go

Once upon a time, it was made for us (For us)

Woke up one day, it had turned to dust

Baby, we were found, but now we’re lost

So it’s time to let it go

[Pre-Chorus]

Move on, we’re not 17

I’m not who I used to be

You say that everything changed

You’re right, we’re grown now

[Chorus]

So won’t you slide away

Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights

So won’t you slide away

Back to the ocean, la-la-la, you’ll slide away

So won’t you slide away

Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights

So won’t you slide away

Back to the ocean, la-la-la, you’ll slide away

[Outro]

Move on, we’re not 17

I’m not who I used to be

You say that everything changed

You’re right, we’re grown now
