Hayley Kiyoko brought someone special when she hit the stage at The Ally Coalition’s annual benefit concert on Wednesday night, December 5. The 27-year-old singer and actress surprised concertgoers at Town Hall in New York when she invited Taylor Swift to the stage.
Introducing the former country singer, Hayley said, “So I’m gonna bring out a friend, she’s really talented, she just got off tour, she just signed with Universal, and she’s really nervous.” Even though Hayley pretty much revealed that Taylor was the surprise guest, the audience member still freaked out when the singer came up to the stage. “It’s so great to be at this incredible show,” she said.
The pair then launched into an acoustic rendition of “Reputation” track “Delicate”, with Taylor strumming the guitar and Hayley providing harmonization. Sporting a velvet blazer, skinny jeans and classic red lip, the Grammy-winning singer rhymes, “Is it cool that I said all that? Is it chill that you’re in my head?/ ‘Cause I know that it’s delicate.” The crowd could be heard happily singing along during the performance.
Elsewhere in the show, Lana Del Rey debuted a couple of new songs when she teamed up with the event’s organizer Jack Antonoff. “Me and Jack wrote a couple of country songs just for fun, so we thought we’d play them,” she said before launching into “Hey Blue Baby” and “I Must Be Stupid for Feeling So Happy”. The songstress sang on the latter song, “All my friends say my life’s like a bad country song/ I smile and say, ‘I know’ and sing along.”
Also performing at the event were Bleachers, Regina Spektor and fun.‘s Andrew Dost. “Saturday Night Live” alum Sasheer Zamata also performed a stand-up set during the show.
Founded by Jack and his sister Rachel, the nonprofit Ally Coalition raises funds, creates awareness and advocates for at-risk LGBT youth.
