Delta Airlines and Coca-Cola are apologizing after passengers called their in-flight napkins “creepy” for encouraging romantic advances on planes.
The Diet-Coke-branded paper napkins, which were distributed as part of some Delta flights’ beverage and snack service, feature a message that encourages people to give their name and phone number to a fellow passenger they have a “crush” on.
“Because you’re on a plane full of interesting people and hey… you never know,” the front of the napkin reads.
On the back, there are two blank lines to be filled in with a name and number. Fine print on the side of the napkin encourages the reader to, “Be a little old school. Write down your number & give it to your plane crush. You never know…”

Passengers who were disturbed by the napkins’ suggestion took to Twitter to express their concerns.
“Hey @Delta and @CocaCola These napkins are creepy AF,” one twitter user wrote. “Pretty sure no one appreciated unsolicited phone numbers in the ‘good old days’ and they sure as heck don’t want the number of someone who has been gawking at them on a plane for hours today. Not a good look.”
Another user called out the airline and the soda company, writing that their marketing attempt was a “swing and a miss.”
However, not all passengers were troubled by the napkins, with some people coming to their defense.
“The world is just to[sic] friggin boring and serious these days!” one user tweeted. “I thought this was a brilliant move by @Delta. #partyPooper.”
A representative for Delta Airlines tells PEOPLE that they had already begun pulling the napkins from their aircraft last month before the napkins gained attention on social media and apologized for using them.

“We rotate Coke products regularly as part of our brand partnership, but missed the mark with this one,” a representative for Delta said in a statement. “We are sorry for that and began removing the napkins from our aircraft in January.”

Coca-Cola also apologized, telling PEOPLE in a statement, “We sincerely apologize to anyone we may have offended. We worked with our partners at Delta to begin removing the napkins last month and are replacing them with other designs.”
