A stunning home which inspired Ian Fleming when he wrote his James Bond novels has been put on the market for £900,000.

Chiltern House was built in 1910 and was the former HQ for Huntercombe Golf Club.

And in Fleming’s 1958 book Goldfinger, Bond tells the eponymous villain he ‘played off nine at Huntercombe’.

Legend has it Fleming, who was a member of the golf club near Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, for 32 years, would settle down in front of the impressive bay window in the library of the clubhouse to write. 

It has a huge drawing room, dining room, sitting room and four double bedrooms.

John and Debbie Hilliar, who are selling up to buy a hotel, said: ‘We have turned it from a rather unloved house into a very happy home and have made numerous improvements.

‘It’s a beautiful spacious home with real elegance and character.’

The hamlet of Nuffield is located a ten-minute drive from the market towns of Henley and Wallingford.
