Notts house fire that killed mum and two kids started by electrical fault

Justine Collison, 33, her daughter Isabella, 8, and son Harvey, 5, were killed in the village of Collingham last December.

Husband and dad Gavin survived the fire after collapsing on to the floor of his bedroom, potentially protecting him from the deadly fumes.

The blaze started in their conservatory and tore through its plastic roof.

It began after an electrical fault but investigators have yet to determine the specific appliance, Nottingham Council House heard.

Nottinghamshire senior coroner Mairin Casey recorded conclusions of accidental death after the tragedy on December 15.

“They were a really nice young family and I knew them to say hello to”

“They were very sociable and always inviting people over. It is an absolute tragedy and has shocked everyone living in the area.”

Another neighbour added: “The conservatory is opposite the front of our house and my husband and son saw flames ripping through it. It was totally ablaze.

“They ran over to bang on the door to wake the people up.

“They were still in bed asleep. Another man smashed a window but sadly it was too late.”
