Anton Du Beke, 54, was applauded by viewers after the Strictly Come Dancing professional was promoted to judge after being booted out the 2020 series. The dancer stepped in for Motsi Mabuse, 39, after she had to self-isolate due to government guidelines.

Since temporarily joining the panel alongside Craig Revel-Horwood and Shirley Ballas, the Strictly dancer confessed he would love the opportunity to be a “full-time judge” if a position was available.

However, Anton confessed he suffered some struggles during his time scoring the celebrities and their dance partners.

The ballroom dancer dished on his main concerns taking on the role in a new interview.

The dad-of-two, who recently released his third historical romance novel, said he struggled with “nerves”.

Anton explained: “It’s different nerves.

“My biggest concern was making sure I got the point I wanted to get across in an interesting, coherent way in the time I had available to me.

“Anyone who knows me knows I find it very difficult to keep things short!”

He also addressed fans calling for him to be a permanent judge on the BBC show.

The dancer admitted he was “overwhelmed” by the outpouring of support from the public.

“It was really lovely and I was absolutely thrilled,” Anton continued to this week’s OK! magazine.

“I was so proud of myself and so grateful to everybody for being so positive about enjoying me being on the panel.”

He added: “I was overwhelmed by it all really.”

Despite Anton being put on the sidelines following Motsi’s return to the programme last week, fans have expressed their desire for the dancer to be added to the judging panel.

“Petition to bring back Anton as a Strictly Come Dancing judge,” one person penned.

Another person wrote: “Talking of Strictly, I have to say I’m really enjoying Anton Du Beke’s filling-in as a judge!”

“I miss Anton Du Beke, he made a great judge,” a third person added.

Meanwhile, the Strictly star has landed a new role on This Morning for a new three-part series.

He will be joined by his wife Hannah and three-year-old twins George and Henrietta for a festive cookery special.

Speaking about his new gig, he explained: “Being able to bake gives me great joy and being able to do it with the children too is just marvellous. It’ll be very festive indeed.”
