Ben Fogle breaks down in emotional exchange with wife Marina as he struggles climbing Mount Everest

Ben Fogle was overwhelmed with emotion as he spoke with wife Marina during Tuesday’s episode of Lorraine.

The 44-year-old broadcaster is currently climbing Mount Everest in a charity expedition with Olympic cyclist Victoria Pendleton, so has been separated from his other half and their two children for weeks.

Chatting about his trek via satellite phone, Ben welled up in a discussion with Marina, his voice cracking as he told her ‘I love you so much and I think about you every day’.

Earlier in the discussion, Ben admitted he was nervous of climbing to the next camp as he’s actually afraid of heights.

He explained: ‘Tomorrow we’re actually climbing up to Camp 3. I have to admit is pretty scary. I have a fear of heights, it’s over 7,000m high and it’s a sheer climb.’

Yet he put his fear to one side to thank Marina for her support, explaining: ‘I’m so lucky that she [Marina] has given me this chance.

Cute couple: Ben and Marina wed in 2006 and have two children, Ludo, seven, and Iona, six. He has been separated from his other half and their kids for weeks because of the trek

Kind words: Supporting her husband, Marina said: ‘We’re so proud of you Ben and the children can’t stop talking about “daddy’s challenge”. They are so excited about you calling the school’

‘In many ways it is a bit selfish leaving my beautiful family behind. I want to inspire them. I want my wife to be proud of me, I want my children to be excited about what I do. I’m going to give a call into their school in a week or so.’

He added to host Lorraine Kelly: ‘There’s so many excuses not to do this. Believe me Lorraine this is hard, it’s testing me to my absolute limit. It’s not easy sometimes but I feel like the luckiest person in the world.’

Oops: Earlier in the discussion, Ben admitted he was nervous of climbing to the next camp as he’s actually afraid of heights and does not want to go to Base Camp Three

‘It’s such a privilege to be a part of this. I’ve always loved the idea of climbing Everest myself – there’s no way, now I know what it involves, there’s no way. But we’ve got a front row seat, we get to experience the adventure with him, that’s something that really attracted him to me in the first place.’

Whilst it is not known exactly how long Ben and Victoria’s trek will take, the former Countryfile star – who set off two weeks ago – previously revealed that he is ‘hoping to be back for the most important date of all. May 26th. My daughter Iona’s birthday’.
