Chloe Madeley, 35, welcomed her first child, a daughter named Bodhi, last year with her rugby player husband James Haskell, 37. The star, who has been candid about her mental health in the past, has now opened up about the struggles she faced during her pregnancy.

Chloe said that her first and second trimesters were “great”, but that her mental health took a “strange turn” when she hit the final stages of her pregnancy.

She explained on the Midwife Pip Podcast that she started to feel “guilty, freaked out and panicked” and questioned whether she had made the “wrong decision”.

Chloe explained: “I felt very isolated, very alone. [I was] quite depressed and quite freaked out.

“I also don’t think it helped at the time that James and I were still living in the Midlands and I was away from all my friends and family.

“Whereas now if I have a bad day…I just get in the car and go to my parents.”

Chloe is the only daughter of TV legends Richard Madeley, 66, and Judy Finnigan, 74. The couple also share a son, Jack, 36.

Expanding on how being around her parents can help her when she is going through a tough time, Chloe added: “Just being in my family home with my mum and dad, who are also obsessed with Bodhi, I just catch my breath again and come back down to earth.

“I kind of reconnect with everything I love about my life.”

Sharing her advice for mothers who may be feeling isolated, Chloe urged them to “get the best support network” because it “really goes a long way”.

Chloe’s pregnancy struggles did not end there as she had to be rushed into an emergency C-section.

While she recovered from the traumatic birth “quickly”, Chloe admitted that she would “cry with dread” if she were to fall pregnant again.

She wrote on Instagram: “I struggled to get pregnant, then had a pretty great pregnancy overall, minus the iron deficiency anaemia and some weird mental health shift at the end of my third trimester, it was pretty fun for me.

“The childbirth didn’t go great but I never felt any pain and I recovered quickly.

“I am obsessed with my little love. And I think I would cry with dread if I had to do it all again anytime soon.

“It genuinely emotionally upsets me.

“I have NO IDEA how people have more than 1 in close succession. I can’t get my head around it.”

Chloe had previously battled for two years to conceive and considered IVF and adoption.

The couple ended up falling pregnant naturally, but Chloe told OK! Magazine that there were “a really sad few months where I was scared it wouldn’t happen for me”.
