David Beckham has shared he is “proud” to be part of the Jewish community as he opened up about his family heritage.

The footballer spoke fondly of the traditions he enjoyed growing up with his mother’s father Joseph who was Jewish.

In a public conversation with producer Ben Winston, the ex-Manchester United footballer told a crowd at St John’s Wood synagogue: “I am part of the Jewish community and I am proud to say it.”

He added: “My grandfather always made sure we would keep up with certain traditions.

“We went to bar mitzvahs and weddings and I would wear a kippah.

“Every Saturday morning, I used to go to see my grandfather – you’d walk in the house to my grandmother preparing chicken soup and matza balls and latkes.

“We always kept to those traditions; it was always about the family coming together and spending time together,” David finished, according to TheJC.com.

These days David enjoys keeping family traditions alive and spends lots of quality time with his wife Victoria Beckham and the couple’s four children.

David told his legion of fans that it was burrito Saturday and said Harper was “my little helper”.

The football star’s kitchen boasted a large island in the middle piled high with ingredients.

Copper pans hung in the centre from the ceiling, and the room was framed by stone walls and flooring.

David, 48, could be seen wiping down the surfaces in preparation for their feast.

Above the star, long rows of very organised glassware were on view, as well as a pizza oven with neatly stacked logs below it.

The outdoor space also boasts chopping boards of all different sizes hanging on the walls, and a patio area to sit and enjoy any food rustled up.

But many commented that it was the fridge that was their favourite part of the video.
