David Schwimmer has crushed our dreams and denied dating Jennifer Aniston

We deliver our sincere, heartfelt apologises to anyone who began to believe in true love again thanks to the Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer rumours.

A rep for David, 54, has said there is no truth’ to the rumours that he is dating his Friends co-star Jen, 52.

Despite us basically knowing it wasn’t happening, we’re still bereft.

David’s rep shut down the speculation following a report in UK magazine Closer which claimed that the actors had grown closer since May’s reunion for the 25th anniversary of Friends.

A source said that the reunion – where they spoke about having a crush on each other in the early seasons of Friends – stirred up old feelings, and that they had been hanging out every since.

A source said: ‘They began texting immediately after filming and, just last month, David flew from his home in New York to see Jen in LA.

‘They’ve been spending time at Jen’s home, where she’s cooked dinners in the evenings, and have enjoyed quality time together, chatting and laughing. They were also spotted drinking wine, deep in conversation, as they walked around one of Jen’s favourite vineyards in Santa Barbara, where it was clear there was lots of chemistry between them.’

While there were no pictures of the pair together, people were really keen for the rumours to be true, partly because it would mean Ross and Rachel’s fairytale was happening in real life, and partly because… well, we’ve all had a rubbish year and will latch on to any scrap of happiness.

During the HBO Max Friends reunion, which saw David, Jennifer, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and Matthew Perry reminisce about being on the biggest sitcom in the world, David and Jennifer dropped a bombshell that they had fancied each other back in the day.

David, who played Ross Geller on the show, said: ‘I had a major crush on Jen. It was reciprocated. We were both crushing hard on each other, but it was like two ships passing. One of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary.’

Jennifer, who played Rachel Green, added: ‘I remember saying one time to David, “It’s going to be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is on national television.” And sure enough, it was.

‘We just channelled all of our adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel.’

The pair never went any further than their crush, with Jennifer later telling Howard Stern: ‘He was lovely, David was great. But no, we never did, on my life. And Courteney [Cox] and Lisa [Kudrow] would know if it did because they would’ve heard about it. They can vouch for me.

‘Howard’s not going to believe me! I would proudly say I banged Schwimmer if that happened. But no.’

While they’re not dating, Jennifer and David – who are both single since their splits from respective spouses Justin Theroux and Zoe Luckman in 2017 – remain close, and posed for a sweet picture after the reunion.

We can but dream.
