Eamonn Holmes, 59, didn’t sound impressed when weather presenter Alex Beresford, 38, tried to pay him a compliment. Appearing to be tuning in to This Morning, the Good Morning Britain favourite tweeted his ITV co-star in view of his 46,000 followers, saying: “Wow @EamonnHolmes you look great!” However, it seemed Eamonn didn’t think Alex’s praise was sincere. Replying in view of his own 994,000 Twitter followers, the broadcaster snapped: “U taking the p***?”(sic)
“No!!!!” Alex insisted. “Was a genuine compliment.”
Eamonn’s fans found the exchange hilarious, taking to the comments section to share their surprise at the This Morning star’s sharp response.
“Omg Eamonn! This is like hearing your teacher swear,”(sic) one exclaimed.
“This is why I love Twitter,” another said, while a third added: “Hilarious response.”
Eamonn is an ITV stalwart and a fan favourite on This Morning.
He and his presenting partner and wife Ruth Langsford, 59, are currently hosting the show Monday to Thursday while regulars Phillip Schofield, 57, and Holly Willoughby, 38, enjoy time off for the summer holiday.
Today, Ruth Langsford rushed off the This Morning set in tears as she recalled her sister’s tragic death.
The TV star’s sister Julia died in June, with Ruth taking some time off from the show in the days which followed as her family dealt with the loss.
On this morning’s show, she was reminded of the grief during a sensitive phone-in which tackled the subject of anxiety.
Between callers, Eamonn told viewers his wife had left the studio because she had been overcome with emotion.
At the end of the segment, he explained: “We’ll leave it here and get Ruth back.
“Obviously these things are very raw still following the death of her sister,” he added.
Ruth Langford opened up on the heartbreak of her sister’s death when she confirmed the sad news on Twitter earlier this summer.
“My lovely Sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness,” she told her 596,000 followers. “My heart is completely broken.
“She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever.”
This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
