Fern Britton on relationship with Phillip Schofield after This Morning exit

Fern Britton opens up on her first marriage ending

Fern Britton has revealed she “doesn’t speak” to her former This Morning presenting partner Phillip Schofield.

The pair co-hosted the daytime programme from 2003 until 2009, but it appears the duo are no longer in contact with each other.

Fern, 65, and Phillip Schofield, 61, looked like the perfect daytime TV duo after hosting This Morning for seven years together.

The author spoke out about their relationship in a new interview and revealed she has not stayed in touch with Phillip.

However, she admitted to having a “marvellous” time working on This Morning.

She told Good Housekeeping: “We were involved in the show and mates at the time, but we don’t really [speak anymore].”

Fern quit This Morning in 2009 and was replaced by Holly Willoughby, 40.

She went on to become a novelist and star on shows including Pointless Celebrities, Strictly Come Dancing, and she presented her own show My Cornwall with Fern Britton which aired on Channel 5.

When asked about the possibility of returning to daytime TV, she commented: “I don’t think I’d be able to turn the clock back.

“It wouldn’t work that way.”

Fern continued: “My time at This Morning was marvellous and I adored the 10 years I was there, but I feel you should never look back.”

She was a regular on the hit show from 1999, having guest presented regularly for the previous six years.

The star became the main host in 2002 alongside John Leslie, and later Phillip.

Phillip stepped down from This Morning in May and days later ITV altogether, as the presenter admitted to lying to his colleagues about having an affair with a young male runner.

The latter had been a regular fixture on the famous sofa for a staggering 20 years.

Fern previously said of her own exit on The Ray D’Arcy Show in 2020: “I began not to enjoy it so much and the morning I resigned, I didn’t know I was going to resign.”

The August 2023 issue of Good Housekeeping is now on sale.
