The Jackson family are slowly speaking out on the passing of their patriarch Joe Jackson, who died Wednesday at the age of 89.
La Toya Jackson was the first to share her thoughts: “I will always love you,” she tweeted.
“You gave us strength, you made us one of the most famous families in the world,” she added. “I am extremely appreciative of that, I will never forget our moments together and how you told me how much you cared. #RIP Joe Jackson.”
In her memorial tweet, La Toya included a YouTube link to a 2013 scene from Life with La Toya, in which Joe joins her for a business lunch. La Toya had a difficult relationship with her father, who she accused of physical and sexual abuse in her 1991 memoir. They had since reconciled.
Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris Jackson, also posted a loving tribute to her grandfather, calling him “one of the greatest patriarchs to ever live.”
“Spending those last few moments with you were everything,” Paris wrote in a lengthy Instagram caption. “Being able to tell you everything I needed to tell you before saying goodbye was such a blessing.”
RIP The HAWK. Joseph Jackson. spending those last few moments with you were everything. being able to tell you everything i needed to tell you before saying goodbye was such a blessing. everyone that came to visit you, came with love, respect, and so much pride in their hearts for you. proud of you, proud to be your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, proud to have your strength and share the dynasty you spent your life creating, and proud to be a jackson. you are the first true jackson. the legend that started it all. none of us would be anywhere near where we’re at if it weren’t for you. you are the strongest man i know. your life’s work will go down in history, as will you, to be known as one of the greatest patriarchs to ever live. i will cherish every moment with you til the day i die, especially our last moments. being able to hold your hand, lay with you and cuddle you, give you kisses all over your cheeks and forehead, meant more to me than you’ll ever know. quoting advice you gave me when i was a little kid and seeing your eyes light up, sharing stories my dad used to tell me about you, telling a joke and hearing you laugh for the last time.. my heart is full knowing we left each other in that way. i made you promise me you’ll come visit me. you agreed and i’m going to hold you to it. and i promised you that we will keep telling your story, over and over. to never be forgotten. my great grandchildren will know who joseph jackson is. i love you grandpa. so so so much that words can’t describe. i have immense gratitude for you, and always will. we all feel that way. thank you for everything. truly. rest in peace and transition. i’ll see you in my dreams very very soon.
Paris’ brother Prince Jackson also paid tribute to his grandfather: “This man is and always will be an example or (sic) sheer willpower and dedication,” Prince captioned the pic. “He didn’t choose (sic) the path that was the easiest but he chose the path that was best for his family.
This man is and always will be an example of sheer willpower and dedication. He didn’t choose the path that was the easiest but he choose the path that was best for his family. You taught me to take pride in the Jackson name and what it really means, you taught me dedication in the face of adversity and most of all you showed me strength and fearlessness. There is and never will be someone like you. Fly free and until we meet again The Hawk.
Janet Jackson has not yet publicly addressed her father’s death, though she did pay tribute to him over the weekend while receiving the Impact Award at the inaugural Radio Disney Music Awards.
Janet remembered him as an “incredible father“ who “drove me to be the best I can,” she told the audience.
More of Joe Jackson’s grandkids also shared their love for him.
“We feel all the love and support from you guys and are extremely thankful,” Taj Jackson, son of Toriano “Tito” Jackson, tweeted.
Tito’s other son TJ Jackson also shared his love: “You did the unthinkable,” he wrote. “You gave your all (and the prime years of your life) to make sure your kids and your family were a success. Some people will never understand the commitment and love it takes to do what you did. My life could have been so much different if it weren’t for you.”
You did the unthinkable. You gave your all (and the prime years of your life) to make sure your kids and your family were a success. Some people will never understand the commitment and love it takes to do what you did. My life could have been so much different if it weren’t for you. I could have been in a gang. I could have a father who was in and out of jail. But I don’t. Why? Because you were plugged into your kids lives and saw a dream that they (or even the world) didn’t know could exist. It took all of your strength to keep your entire family safe from the real dangers in life. You are misjudged but I know who the real you is. And as your grandson I am forever grateful for the strength I have from you. I will always remember what I’ve learned from you. I will always cherish you. Always. I love you grandpa. ❤️?? #ripgrandpa #forevergrateful #pioneer
Randy Jackson Jr. (son of Randy Jackson) took to his Twitter to offer an homage to his late grandfather.
