Since she first began promoting her most recent album, Lover, Taylor Swift has been more candid and vulnerable than we’ve ever seen her before. Previously, “The Man” songstress remained quiet about her political stance, her LGBTQ advocacy, and certain aspects of her personal life. Now, the 30-year-old is speaking up for herself.
This new Swift era began when she published an open letter accusing music executive Scooter Braun of attempting to derail her career, bullying her, and not providing her with the opportunity to purchase her masters. Recently, the Red singer also revealed that her mother has been battling cancer and a brain tumor.
Now, the singer is about to reveal even more of her personal life in her upcoming Netflix documentary, Miss Americana.
This is what we know about ‘Miss Americana’
Set to debut at the Sundance Film Festival Jan 23., Miss Americana is Swift’s most personal documentary. The long-line reads, “Miss Americana is a raw and emotionally revealing look at one of the most iconic artists of our time during a transformational period in her life as she learns to embrace her role not only as a songwriter and performer, but as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice.”
If you aren’t headed to the festival don’t despair, the documentary is set to debut in theaters and on Netflix Jan. 31.
Taylor Swift felt like she needed to speak up in ‘Miss Americana’
When Netflix posted the trailer for Miss Americana, they captioned it by saying, “Forget everything you think you know about Taylor Swift.” The trailer is an in-depth look at how Swift has transformed over her more than decade-long career. It also showcases how she felt she was muzzled by music executives.
However, following her Reputation era and leaving her record label, the “Cruel Summer’ singer felt that it was vital for her to speak out and speak up for herself. “I had to deconstruct an entire belief system,” Swift says in the trailer. “Toss is out an reject it. It woke me up from constantly feeling like I was fighting for people’s respect. It was happiness without anyone else’s input.”
Fans are convinced that Joe Alywn appears in Miss Americana
Though she’s been vocal about lots of other things, Swift has said that her long term relationship with actor Joe Alwyn is not up for discussion. The couple has been together since 2016, but they are rarely if ever seen together, nor do they speak about one another in interviews.
That’s all about to change. The pair attended the Golden Globes together and it looks like Alwyn and Swift have several PDA moments in Miss Americana. At the 1:06 mark in the trailer, fans are convinced that Swift is hugging up on Alwyn whose face is obscured by his hoodie.
“OMG!! I love you!!! So proud of you Darling! Keep shining! You don’t have to prove yourself to anyone. & OMG IS THAT JOE ALWYN HUGGING TAYLOR SWIFT??” one Twitter user wrote. “DID I JUST SAW @taylorswift13 RUN INTO JOE ALWYN & HUG HIM AFTER HER SHOW??????!!!! IS THAT JOE ALWYN???? WE WILL ALSO SEE JOE IN THIS???? OMFG!!!!,” another fan tweeted.
We suppose we’ll have to wait until Miss Americana hits Netflix.
