Caroline Flack and Andrew Brady called time on their romance just six months after they fell head over heels for each other.
The TV stars both put out a similar statement on Tuesday, saying their relationship "wasn’t meant to be".
It’s now been revealed that Love Island host Caroline was the one to call things off because she couldn’t trust him, as well as claims she thought he used her for fame.
In March, a woman claimed she had shared a snog with Andrew and went back to his house following an appearance at a nightclub in Chester, despite the Apprentice star already being involved with Caroline. Andrew firmly denied the allegations at the time.
However, trust issues still appeared to be a major issue because Caroline, who even got his initials tattooed on her wrist, is said to have told friends: “I really tried to help him and support him, but I feel he just used me. He’s fame hungry.”
While a source added to The Sun: “Caroline doesn’t wish any ill on Andrew. She loved him and tried to protect him. She just doesn’t understand why he’s done this.”
A friend of Caroline claimed she had been helping him out financially and told the newspaper she didn’t think he was with her for the right reasons.
They said: “Caroline is heartbroken. She believed Andrew was The One, but now she believes he was using her."
The friend went on: "Andrew began to treat Caroline very badly and became totally toxic to be around.”
Caroline revealed the split on Twitter on Tuesday morning, writing: "I’m sad to announce that Andrew and I have decided to part ways. Unfortunately it was not to be. I wish him all the best.
"At least there’s a Villa waiting for me. It’s back to the ol’ grafting."
Former Apprentice star Andrew, 27, then shared a similar statement to his Instagram page.
The split comes a week after Caroline posted a photograph of herself on Instagram wearing a baseball cap with the words Mrs Brady on the front.
And only last week Caroline had gushed about her former fiancé in an open letter published in Cosmopolitan magazine.
The unlucky in love star spoke of her dating highs and lows and revealed how things were different with this time round.
“People talk about meeting someone and feeling as though you’ve known them your whole life. That’s what it felt like when I met you," she penned to Andrew.
Celebrity break ups
"Talking to you was effortless – just two people laughing and getting to know each other until the early hours. It was how all first dates should be," she added.
The couple met shortly after former Apprentice candidate Brady appeared on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year, a series which was won by Courtney Act.
Mirror Online has contacted a representative for Andrew Brady for comment.
