Get those all-pink outfits and tiny dogs at the ready: Reese Witherspoon has confirmed that there will be a Legally Blonde 3.
Posting on her Twitter and Instagram accounts on Thursday afternoon, the actress uploaded a video of her in her best Elle Woods-esque pink string bikini, floating across a pool on a lilo, captioning it: “It’s True #LegallyBlonde3”.
Social media went into overdrive two days ago when Hollywood film website Deadline claimed that studio bosses at MGM were “near a deal” to bring back Reese Witherspoon, 42, as Elle Woods.
And now the original star of the movie has confirmed the rumours, we’re all ready to start bending-and-snapping like the not-so-dumb blonde queen.
It’s been 17 years since the release of the lol-some tale of the high-flying sorority girl who gets into Harvard to try and win back her ex-boyfriend. And while we have little – actually, none at all – further details on if the rest of the full cast will be rejoining or of any plot, Deadline speculates that it storyline will feature “female empowerment”. Well, yeah, obviously.
The question of a third film has always come up in interviews for Reese, despite her stand-out role being almost two decades ago.
Last year she finally hinted that a reunion could be on the cards, as she said: “We’ve thought about it. I need somebody really clever to come up with a great idea and we’ll do it. I do think it’s a good time to do it. I think women need that kind of positivity right now."

She added that this view would carry across to her other work, such as her most recent show, the award-winning Big Little Lies, which she starred in and executive produced: "It’s a great privilege to be a woman in America. We have many rights and freedoms that a lot of women don’t have all over the world. I try to celebrate that."
She added: "I try to live that to its utmost, particularly the freedom of speech, being able to express myself, create shows like this to show how important women are in our world. That’s what I try to focus on."
How very Elle.
