Nikita Kuzmin surprised fans when he ripped his shirt off during the dance-off with his partner Tilly Ramsay, prompting a mixed reaction from fans on Twitter. The star went into more detail about the reasons behind this last-minute decision in a candid interview on Strictly: It Takes Two.
Nikita, 23, pulled out all the stops for his last dance with Tilly, 20, but it was still not enough to keep the pair in the competition.
On Saturday night, Tilly and Nikita performed a Samba to the song Levitating by Dua Lipa, earning themselves an overall score of 30, which put them in last place.
The pair had to compete against Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu in the dreaded dance-off, before eventually becoming the latest Strictly pairing to be sent packing.
However, fans were absolutely floored by Nikita’s spontaneous decision to go shirtless during the second performance of their Samba.

When presenter Rylan Clark quizzed him about the incident on It Takes Two, Nikita at first acted coy and pretended he had no idea what he was talking about.
Initially, Rylan joked that it had been a “wardrobe malfunction”, with Nikita cheekily chiming in that the shirt had a “mind of its own”, despite clearly being the one to rip it off himself.
However, Nikita soon unpacked the moves that led to that chaotic moment.
“The first step was Tilly’s, so she was the one who unbuttoned my buttons,” he insisted.
“This is how rumours start!” Rylan exclaimed, as he gestured for Nikita to continue.
At this point, a giggling Tilly jumped in to claim that her hand had just happened to “pull his shirt”, prompting Rylan to tease the pair further.
“’Oh my hand accidentally unbuttoned your shirt’… That’s how it starts, babe!” he quipped sarcastically.
Nikita explained: “No, but honestly it was just… We felt the energy and we also saw Rhys and Nancy’s dance and we saw they were amazing so I thought, ‘I have to bring something to fight, fight for the place’.”

“Oh you definitely brought something, let me tell you. We were talking about it after the show,” Rylan concluded with a little smirk.
Nikita’s bold move received a mixed reaction from fans, with some finding it hilarious and others worrying it had derailed the dance entirely.
One particular detail which set tongues wagging was the fact that his shirt continued to move around the dance floor with them, as it was stuck on what appeared to be his mic pack.
Some felt the move was inappropriate and questioned the young dancer’s logic, with Patricia Bell writing: “Really Nikita?? With the shirt off?? Bit desperate.”
Meanwhile, Sdoddsy added: “I really wish Nikita would keep his clothes on. It’s really odd.”
However, other fans chose to see the funny side and felt Nikita had struck comedy gold, with Lauren Turner commenting: “Nikita’s dancing shirt is making me laugh way too much.”
“This absolute clowning mess. I LOVE EVERY SECOND OF IT,” added Ariadnereviews.
“Nikita immediately ascends into legend,” Keep Dancing Podcast stated.
Strictly Come Dancing returns next week at 6:40pm on BBC One.
