Politics and cocktails did not mix in the Hamptons over the weekend when Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s re-election campaign held a fund-raiser in Montauk.
We hear that ticket holders to the bash at hip hotel Surf Lodge (which did not plan the event) were upset that Cuomo did not attend the shindig.
Adding to the outrage, some party people at the hotel were miffed that the bar was closed for a private event.
“At around 3:30 p.m., they stopped serving alcohol for his fund-raiser,” said a source, who noted that a tipsy 20-something guest was so outraged he threatened to vote for another candidate.
“He was like, ‘This is bulls - - t! I would’ve voted for him, but now I’m voting for Miranda,’ ” referring to Cuomo’s opponent Cynthia Nixon by the name of her character on “Sex and the City.”
We’re told Surf Lodge normally closes during the day anyway to clean and set up for bands.
A Cuomo source noted, “It was a silly snafu, the governor was never intended to be there, he was hosting a soiree in Southampton… over 200 twenty-somethings feted his re-election.”
Surf Lodge owner Jayma Cardoso told us, “The Governor’s daughters attended and spoke eloquently on his behalf, and the event was very successful.”
We hear that Cuomo’s campaign is giving away tickets to a lucky donor for Billy Joel’s 100th concert at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.
