Zoe Ball: Strictly’s It Takes Two host admits major family sacrifice to attend the final

Zoe Ball, 49, admitted she’s really excited for the upcoming Strictly Come Dancing final this weekend, so much so, that she’s made a major family sacrifice. The BBC host revealed that she will be attending the final no matter what, and that means turning up late to her son’s birthday party, because it clashes with the popular show’s finale on Saturday.

I’ve got my son’s birthday party on Saturday night, but I’ll have to go late because I cannot miss the final!

Speaking on her Radio Two show on Wednesday, Zoe featured all three couples that have reached the final stage of the dancing competition, eager to find out more about the dances they’ll be performing at the weekend.

This year, the format of the show changed slightly so as to accommodate the fact there is one less couple in the final, following Paralympian Will Bayley and his pro partner Janette Manrara’s departure from the show due to his knee injury.

Which means, this Strictly final is really not one to miss as the pressure will be on the couples to remember the steps to all three dances they now have to do, in order to win the coveted Glitterball trophy.

The mix-up certainly had Zoe excited, as she gushed about how much she’s looking forward to seeing who will be crowed the winner.

  • Strictly 2019: Kelvin Fletcher’s win guaranteed because of advantage

The dedicated super fan giggled, as she admitted: “I’ve got my son’s birthday party on Saturday night.”

“But I’ll have to go late because I cannot miss the final!” She exclaimed, as the studio laughed at the surprising admission of dedication.

The popular radio host was bubbling with enthusiasm as she welcomed current favourites to win, Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse, as the first couple to join her for an interview.

Zoe asked how they were feeling to be in the final.

“I’ve already started reflecting on what’s been an incredible time,” Kelvin confessed.

“Going into the final this weekend has been the most incredible experience I’ve ever had.”

When it came down to talking about the challenge of learning three dances this week, he laughed.

“Training’s tough as it always is, but I just can’t wait for his weekend!” He explained, as Oti stifled her laughter in the background.

“I was waiting for that one!” she said, as Zoe burst out laughing.

“I love it when you say that and Oti just laughs!” she giggled: “It’s your last week you have to get everything right.”

The professional dancer admitted that their final training sessions left her emotional, in the run up to the show’s conclusion.

“I got a little bit emotional when I was going through our choices dance, that hasn’t been announced yet, and I had to teach him and my eyes were just sobbing!” She said.

“I was like, ‘I can’t believe we’re doing this.'”

Zoe quizzed them about their Rumba to Ain’t No Sunshine: “I mean, has anyone even done a Rumba in the final before?!” She asked.

“That’s how good you are Kelvin Fletcher!”

“Oh I don’t know,” the fan-favourite went all coy from the compliment.

Zoe went on to reveal how she herself, got emotional watching Kelvin and and Oti’s dances over the past few weeks.

  • Strictly Come Dancing: Anton Du Beke’s first win sealed?

“I watched all of your dances back last night and I got so emotional, I actually had a little cry watching them back!” She admitted.

“You’ve just been so phenomenal Kelvin.”

And, Kelvin wasn’t the only finalist to receive some high-end compliments from Zoe, as she continued to gush over Karim Zeroual when he appeared afterwards with his pro partner Amy Dowden, and then Emma Barton later on with Anton Du Beke.

It’s safe to say Zoe is definitely looking forward to Saturday night, along with viewers who eagerly await the highly-anticipated final show.

Strictly Come Dancing concludes on Saturday at 7:05pm on BBC One.
