Cleaning expert warns that spray mops AREN’T deep-cleaning your floors with shocking before and after

SPRAY mops are a lifesaver for taking care of minor spills, but a revelatory video posted by an expert shows just how gross your floors could be if you rely too heavily on your spray mop.

Cleaning professional Katie Kremer demonstrated the amount of dirt and buildup that accumulated on her kitchen tiles after only using her spray mop.

"This floor has been cleaned exclusively with one of these mops for over a year," she explained in the introduction of her TikTok.

Kremer held up the spray mop, which uses a disposable pad and a tank of spray cleaner to make mopping fast and easy.

Showing her kitchen tiles, she said, "It looks clean, but I don't think it is, and I'm going to prove it."

"This is not a mop-shaming video," Kremer clarified for her viewers.

"Those mops are great for quick cleans and spills, but it's not deep-cleaning your floors."

Then, she used a bottle of degreaser and a steel sponge to scrub her tile floors.

Because her technique was so aggressive, Kremer advised that viewers only use the tactic in their own homes once or twice a year, or when moving into a new home that hasn't been deep-cleaned.

The heavy scrubbing brought lots of caked-in dirt up to the surface, and as Kremer worked, she had to wipe away layers of buildup.

Holding a dirty rag up to the camera, she showcased how much dirt had been lurking on her tiles.

At the end of the video, Kremer showed off the sparkling clean tiles, which looked good as new.

"Ok, now we can use this mop," she said, grabbing her spray mop and using it to give the floors a final polish.

"They do smell really good!" Kremer added.

Viewers were shocked at the transformation, especially because the kitchen floor hadn't been obviously dirty at the beginning of the video.

"I audibly gasped," wrote one viewer. "I thought that was just the grain/design on the tile."

"Now I feel like I need to scrub mine," she added.

Others joked about their own reliance on spray mops, saying that as long as they weren't "eating off the floors," they would keep using the easy, simple method.

"I was comfortable living the lie," one commenter said.
