Vegan, cruelty-free and sustainable beauty is having a moment right now. And rightly so.
With the negative impact we’re having on the world becoming more apparent, it seems frivolous to cause damage for the sake of a face cream.
In the EU there’s been a ban on animal testing since 2013, however there’s a grey area when it comes to brands that sell products to the Asian market.
That’s because in China a product has to be tested on animals before it can be sold.
Last year I visited L’Oréal in Lyon, where it tests on EpiSkin (synthetic human skin), and I heard how the brand convinced the Chinese government to stop testing some make-up and hair products on animals.
It hopes skincare will follow soon.
