I’m a gardener – the ‘square foot’ method I wish I knew sooner, you’ll grow more

The gardening fan explained once tomatoes start to turn colour they won’t get bigger.

She said: “They’re just more susceptible to insect damage, sun scald splitting, chipmunk, squirrels and birds.”

“You can bring your blushing tomatoes inside and set them on a place, stem down all next to each other at room temperature.”

Providing you have more than one, a group of tomatoes will ripen each other inside your home.

Katie said: “Tomatoes give off ethylene gas so they’ll ripen each other as they sit here.”

The gardening fan explained her tomatoes will taste just as good ripening inside.

“They taste just as good as vine ripened and here’s another little secret… your friendly local small scale organic farmer does it this way too! “

The gardening fan explained this is why you will find supermarket tomatoes lack flavour.

She said: “Those varieties are bred for shipping and size consistency, not flavour, so the harvesting technique is only a part of the equation when it comes to taste. Go forth and get those beautiful tomatoes you worked so hard to grow!”

The gardening fan’s video racked up over 200,000 views online.

People agreed Katie has shared a great tip with many pointing out it helps save them from pesky critters.

One user said: “I did this as pests are having a feast on them.”
