I spent £4k turning my home into a pink Winter Wonderland – it took me a week, people say it's extra and I love it

A WOMAN has revealed that she forked out £4,000 turning her house into a pink Winter Wonderland – complete with five Christmas trees and life-size pink Nutcrackers.

Gemma Markland, 31, spent an entire week decorating her four-bedroom detached property in Wigan, Greater Manchester, with rose-gold ornaments including baubles, reindeers, snowmen and an incredible Christmas door arch.

Gemma and her partner, Kyle, 29, a sales manager, bought their home back in September 2019, and she has spent over £50,000 turning it into a 'pink paradise' – with every single room following the rose-gold theme.

To celebrate Christmas this year, Gemma, a business owner, spent £1,000 on a stunning bauble arch, designed by local florist, Kelly Louise Floral Artistry, and kitted out each room in the house with a rose-gold themed Christmas tree.

The couple – who live at home with Gemma's 12-year-old daughter Grace, from a previous relationship – set up an Instagram account, themarklandhome, to document her home transformation progress and it has gathered a whopping 350k followers.

She said: "I love the way it's all turned out.

"We decorated a little last year, but nothing on this scale.

"The bauble floral arch outside the house cost around £1,000 but it was so worth it.

"I love this time of year and I wanted to go all out because we couldn't really celebrate last year."

It's the first property Gemma has ever owned, and she began collecting rose-gold items to decorate before even moving in.

The business owner has spent years carefully crafting every room to follow a blush pink theme.

To date, Gemma has splashed out £50,000 on pink items including rugs, curtains, tables, sofas, chairs, and lamps and photo frames.

She said: "Kyle wasn't keen at first, but he's used to all the pink now.

"I do a lot of decorating and DIY myself to save money where I can.

"It's a lot of money but it's been worth it for the overall look of the house."

Gemma was determined to carry on the pink theme in the festive season with her Christmas decorations.

She gathered items throughout the year and started decorating the house in November.

Throughout the house, Gemma has five Christmas trees and two life-sized pink Nutcracker statues and four smaller ones.

Gemma added: "I found a lot of stuff online but also places like B&M for the baubles.

"My favourite piece has to be the candy cane themed tree in the kitchen.

"The tree is full-on pink which is hard to find."

Gemma is also over the moon with her floral Christmas arch at the front of her house.

Overall, she estimates she spent around £4,000 on pink-themed Christmas decorations.

She said: "The archway is stunning – I love how it turned out.

"My daughter loves the decorations.

"She's often inviting her friends round to come and see our pink house."

Gemma's house transformation has proved popular as she has amassed a further 20,000 followers since uploading her Christmas decoration photos.

The mum-of-one is looking forward to Christmas as she is hosting it this year.

She said: "I can't wait to have everyone over to see the place.

"After missing last year, it's the first Christmas we're able to spend with the extended family again.

"We've had such a tough year, I wanted to make this one extra special.

"It's all a bit of fun and I hope it can make people smile."

People on Instagram are obsessed with Gemma's Christmas decorations, one wrote: "This is so extra!"

"Absolutley amazing, if only my other half would let me have this up in our house!" Exclaimed one woman.

A third user wrote: "Oh my, beautiful. Jealous of your gorgeous nutcracker!"
