I'm a professional organizer – here are my tips for spring cleaning and why you should always start with your wardrobe
AS the weather warms up, it can only mean one thing: spring is finally here.
And with the season changes comes spring cleaning, the ritual that provides people with a clean slate (pun intended) at home.
However, spring cleaning can often be overwhelming when you have no idea what to do first.
Well, Devin VonderHaar, professional organizer and home stylist at The Modern Minimalist and expert at StorageUnits.com, has shared her best tips for spring cleaning (and beyond).
WHERE TO START
"Start where you’re at. What’s your biggest pain point? Start there," she began.
"I like following the Konmari method categories as a framework in an order to follow – starting on clothes, then books, paper, komono (miscellaneous items) then sentimental ones."

The Konmari method encourages organizing by categories rather than areas.
"I think the phase of life, age and number of humans in the home, pets, and lifestyle can all be factors to consider in what areas need the most help.
"I find the kitchen, entryways/mudrooms, and storage/garage areas can all be hot spots in the spring."
HOW TO START
VonderHaar explained: "Spring is my favorite time of year. It’s all about new life and fresh energy, and we can really align with that energy by clearing out old stagnant energy and clutter.

THE SPOTS YOU'RE FORGETTING
Previously, another cleaning expert had revealed the five spots people tend to neglect when spring cleaning.
After a winter spent hunkering down with snacks and movies, prepare your living area for spring by vacuuming couches and chairs.
Use your vacuum attachments to clean every crevice.
Don't be shy about removing cushions to hunt down stubborn crumbs, and if you have a futon in the guest room, unfold it to make sure every section is clean.
Once your couch is clean, switch out your throw pillows or their covers for something with a spring vibe.
You might also be forgetting to clean your shower head, bins in your bedroom, the car, and window curtains.
