Luxury design house Dolce & Gabbana is selling hand-painted Smeg fridges for a massive £31,195

FASHION house Dolce & Gabbana is selling designer fridges with a £31,195 price tag.

Artists at the Italian design company are hand-painting appliances for trendy maker Smeg.

The brightly coloured ice boxes are decorated with romantic scenes from Italy by artist Salvatore Sapienza.

One shows minstrels entertaining dancers and a knight in armour wooing a fair maiden.

If you cannot stretch to a fridge, there is also a range of D&G toasters, kettles and juicers inspired by island Sicily.

The toasters cost £499 for a two-slice and £599 for a four-slice machine.

A D&G kettle will set you back £499, as will its designer juicer.

All the small appliances are also made by Smeg and are on sale at John Lewis.

Buyers are told: “Extravagant luxury fused with utility when Dolce&Gabbana joined hands with Smeg to create a Made in Italy line of appliances in exclusive numbers.

“Among the beautiful results of this collaboration was the FAB28R-DG/SP09PB refrigerator.

"A one-of-a-kind design that has the best of both brands, the well-crafted creation is a highly functional fridge that encapsulates the beauty of Salvatore Sapienza's creativity.

“This Refrigerator of Art is a gentle reminder of how there is no set way to appreciate art and no reason why we should not incorporate it into our daily life.”

Stockist John Lewis says: “Adorned with their signature decorative style, luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana have joined creative forces with Smeg to produce Sicily is my Love – a unique collection of vibrant, Italian-made appliances.”
