Mum leaves bride-to-be in TEARS by comparing her daughter's wedding dress to 'curtains'

But one mum has taken that to new levels, leaving her daughter in TEARS over her horrified reaction to her chosen wedding dress.

Appearing on Channel 4 show The Posh Frock Shop, bride-to-be Akilah revealed she's already shelled out on another gown – only for her mum Opal to veto it.

She revealed: "If I do find another dress I lose all of my deposit. And that’s a lot (of money)."

But Akilah's spirits were raised when she found a dream dress, a strapless lacy number, in designer Ian Stuart's London store.

She gushed: "This is an amazing dress. It’s got the lace that I’ve always dreamt of. Look at that veil. I love this."

Akilah couldn't wait to show her friends and family, who were equally wowed by the dress – calling it "spectacular", "stunning", "sophisticated", "elegant", "classic" and "gorgeous".

All apart from one person, who thought it looked like "curtains", and whose opinion is unfortunately rather important.

An unimpressed Opal said: "I don’t like it. It’s not nice. It doesn’t do anything for you. I really don’t like it. It looks like curtains."

Pointing to the rest of the group, she added: "I guess if it’s beautiful for them they can pay for it. I don’t like it, but it’s your wedding not mine. It’s a nice dress but it’s not ‘wow!’"

Her damning assessment of the gown left poor Akilah in floods of tears.

Channel 4 shared a clip on Facebook, and viewers were left reeling.

One woman commented: "I think she was just jealous and is a very bitter woman.

"I would love any dress that my daughter felt absolutely beautiful in.

"It's not her day, it's not going to be a bad day because she doesn't like the dress; the day isn't even remotely about her! So sad."

Another added: "Oh, that’s brutal. Mum needs to support her daughter. Is she jealous?"

And a third said: "She only kicked up a fuss because her mother in law helped her choose the dress and she was clearly VERY jealous of the grooms mum! Toxic!"
