Who is Michael O'Hare?

Michael was born in Eston in North Yorkshire, and later studied aerospace engineering at Kingston University, London.

He decided to leave university a few months into his course, after discovering his passion for cooking alongside his studies.

He started working in professional kitchens such as Judges in Yarm and John Burton-Race at The Landmark, before being made head chef at The Blind Swine in York.

He opened his own restaurant The Man Behind The Curtain in Leeds in 2014.

His unusual and creative dishes have helped him to stand out in the industry.

The talented chef is currently engaged to Amanda Gilby and the couple have a baby together.

What TV shows has Michael O'Hare been on?

The cooking whizz is no stranger to TV, having appeared on the Great British Menu in 2015 – and returned to the show as a judge for the following three years.

You may recognise Michael from his slot a guest chef on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen in 2015.

He has also appeared on BBC’s Masterchef and Yes Chef in 2016.

Alongside his show appearances, he also became the Creative Director of GG Hospitality in 2016, which is a company created by ex-professional footballers Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville.

He's the owner of The Man Behind The Curtain, in Leeds, and is due to open a fine dining restaurant, called The Man Who Fell To Earth, in Manchester.

Why was Michael O'Hare in the news?

The chef caused a stir for all the wrong reasons in 2017 when he launched a foul-mouthed tirade at a customer who asked for a refund.

Michael told Russel Whish "my palette is about 10 million times better than yours" after he complained about the £180 meal – which he booked a year in advance.

The dad-of-two said his dinner, at Michael's The Man Behind The Curtain, was "bland and salty".

After being told there was no one he could complain to at the restaurant, he sent an email – and was labelled "a right c***" by the famed cook.
