10 best puffer jackets for women | The Sun

WE'VE all been in that very cold position where our coat just isn't cutting the mustard when the weather's icy and the wind's bitter. And in those moments, you'll wish you had one of the best puffer jackets for women.

First seen in the 1930s, a clever chap named Eddie Bauer thought up the design after nearly freezing to death in his woollen sweater, which granted, wasn't a great experience for him but did lead to the invention of a practical, cosy jacket.

However, the puffer as we know it today didn't come to fruition until the 1970s but thank goodness it did.

Known for being warm, cosy and comfortable, a puffer jacket is a winter wardrobe staple.

There are loads of different types from cropped to hooded, long to vests, but the one thing all puffer jackets have in common is the quilted design that gives them their name.

Some are filled with down while others, which are generally less expensive are insulated with non-animal alternatives.

You'll find loads of celebs sporting puffer jackets from J-Lo to Jennifer Aniston and it seems the style never really goes out of fashion, whether that's the girlie puffers that were worn by Paris Hilton in the noughties or the duvet coats you see A-Listers in today.

Basically, if you don't have a puffer jacket in your wardrobe, it's time for that to change asap and we've given you a leg up by sharing some of our favourites.

My Oodie hooded blanket is "my favourite thing I've ever tested"

Made for wearing in the snow, this long-line puffer jacket is ideal for practicality.

2. Hujoin Women's Crop Puffer

  • Hujoin Women's Crop Puffer, £39.99 from Amazon – buy here

This one from Amazon is not only reasonably priced at just under £40, but also comes in an impressive 29 colour ways from black to lilac.

It's insulated with synthetic down fibres and is perfect for casual everyday wear – although don't reach for this one in the rain if you haven't got an umbrella because there's no hood and it's not water resistant.

Long puffer coats which are also known as duvet coats (or if you're a football fan, Wenger coats after ex-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's famous pitch side jacket) have come to the fore in the last few years.

This one from UNIQLO comes in six colours, is available in sizes XXS to XXL and is insulated with super warm down and feathers.

The fabric is windproof and water resistant plus it comes with an attached hood for those all-too-common rainy days.

5. Axel Arigato Halo Down Jacket

  • Halo Down Jacket, £265 (was £445) from Axel Arigato – buy here

A super cool streetwear brand, Axel Arigato can be spenny, to put it mildly.

But, at the time of writing, the Halo Down Jacket is currently on sale for nearly £200 off the original price, making it within reach (although still expensive).

Those extra pounds are worth it for the modern silhouette, mega-warm design and eco-conscious production which you can track through a QR code.

Plus everything is sustainably made and you can throw it in the washing machine when it needs cleaning. This one's a must have.
