Critics Find the Duggar Family's Tribute to Joy-Anna Duggar's Birthday Very Strange and Impersonal

Joy-Anna Duggar recently celebrated her birthday, and the young Duggar daughter turned 23. She assuredly spent it with her family, as she recently had a daughter with her husband, Austin Forsyth. But she also received a sweet shoutout from her parents. The Duggar Family Instagram and Facebook posted a nice message to Joy-Anna to commemorate the day.

Unfortunately, Duggar family critics find the social media birthday wishes deeply impersonal. Here’s why.

The Duggar family posted a sweet tribute to Joy-Anna Duggar for her birthday

Happy 23rd birthday to our sweet Joy! Sometimes I can't believe it, I still remember when you were born like it was…

The Duggar Family Facebook and Instagram appear to be run by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. The proud parents of 19 kids post plenty about their children. And every time there’s a birthday in the family, they’re sure to post a few photos and kind words for their fans to see.

“Happy 23rd birthday to our sweet Joy!” Jim Bob and Michelle captioned their post. “Sometimes I can’t believe it, I still remember when you were born like it was yesterday. You’ve taught me so much! I love you and thank God for your life. You are an amazing mom, a wonderful wife, and always our precious daughter. Happy birthday!!”

Joy-Anna took to the Duggar Family Instagram to thank her parents for the sweet message. “Thank you!! Love you!!!” she commented.

Joseph and Kendra Duggar also commented on the post. “Happy Birthday Joy!” they wrote. “We love you so much.”

Duggar family critics found the message to be very impersonal

While Joy-Anna may have enjoyed the sweet birthday message, Duggar family critics found it to be impersonal. While the message states that Joy-Anna has “taught” her parents “so much,” they never go into detail. And they also state that their daughter is “amazing” and “wonderful” as a daughter and a wife, but they also fail to give any personal anecdotes that make it sound like they’re close to Joy-Anna at all.

“It’s saying anything about her just how she is in relationships,” a Reddit user stated. “She’s not a person in her own right; a daughter, wife and mother.”

“I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out why ‘I love you and thank God for your life’ doesn’t sit right with me,” another wrote. “It sounds creepy and insulting.”

Others were convinced that Jana Duggar was actually the one to write the tribute. Since Jana still lives at home with Jim Bob and Michelle, it’s not a far reach to assume she takes control of the family’s social media.

“What makes it funnier is that Jana likely wrote it too,” another commented.

This isn’t the first time critics have disliked Duggar birthday messages

Happy 13th birthday, Jennifer!! You are so special to us! We enjoy you so much, and love watching you grow. Jennifer…

This is far from the first Duggar family birthday message that’s caused fans and critics alike to wonder how well Jim Bob and Michelle know their kids.

In the past, the parents would take the birthday child to go eat the infamous Chocolate Mess at the Marketplace Grill. But they’ve had to get extra creative with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Unfortunately, it seems their social media messages aren’t creative enough for family critics.

Back in August, Jim Bob and Michelle celebrated Jennifer Duggar’s 13th birthday. The family created an outdoor ice cream bar for their daughter. And they posted a message to social media that seemed much more personal than Joy-Anna’s, as it mentioned Jennifer’s love for animals. But critics still think Jim Bob and Michelle should’ve done more to make the day special for the teen.

“I just want to note that there’s nothing wrong with having a birthday that uses great value items but it’s the way they did it that is horrible,” a Reddit user wrote. “Who sticks candles in a plastic bucket like that? And what is with that candy in those sad cups? It costs 3$ to buy a cake mix and make a homemade cake.”

Will Jim Bob and Michelle ever get a Duggar birthday right in the eyes of their critics? We’re not sure — but they’ll certainly keep posting about it!
