Exact ‘no strings attached’ hair stylers being used in the Love Island villa – and we’ve put them to the test

Love Love Island? Our Factor 50 email brings all the goss direct to your inbox

It’s usually all quite hush hush on what beauty products are being used inside the Love Island villa, short of Superdrug sun creams, but this year we’ve been given a heads up on the heated tools taking pride of place on the dressing room tables.

The glam room has been given a 2021 spruce-up and now features some very techy hair solutions, including Cloud Nine The Cordless Iron, £349 here.

The “no strings attached” feature is perfect for the contestants, because they can wander around to various mirrors, and perhaps engage in a confrontation or two, all while styling their hair on the go.

But while they might be perfect for use inside the villa, we wanted to test to see if the cordless feature, and the promise of strand-protecting benefits, was useful in real life.

So, to see how these straighteners fair with a head of thick, textured hair – and to check if they were her type on paper – beauty writer Akesha put the trending tool to the test.

Akesha says:

I have to say I was expecting a lot from this pricey launch, and luckily Cloud Nine really delivered. The kit comes with a travel bag, heat mat, charger and stand, the tool, and plug adapters.

The straighteners themselves have two heat settings, 160°C and 180°C, which is great because my thicker hair might need a hotter setting that someone else’s. They also feature “revive technology”, which means the iron ensures heat is concentrated inside the hair instead of drying out the external structure.

The best thing about these straighteners is just how light they are. Honestly, I would say about the same weight as my iPhone 11, which makes the likelihood of me actually bringing them out with me highly likely. It takes 45 mins to get from zero to full charge, and that one charge lasts for 30 minutes.

These aren’t straighteners to take my hair from curls to pin straight – the plates are way too small and thin for that, and 30 minutes isn’t long enough for that task either. But of course, no problem if you’re in the Love Island villa and have constant access to a charging point.

Regardless, I say these are an excellent addition to your hair toolkit for on-the-go touch ups. I wish I had had these when we experienced the freak weather wash-out recently and my freshly-straightened hair poofed back out.

Luckily (or unluckily) I know we’ll have more summer showers to come.
