Every month your household chores are making you burn a staggering 20,000 calories – which is the equivalent of 16,816 burpees per month – research has revealed.
If you’re running a busy household you will know that a daily gym session can often drop to the bottom of the priority list.
From the continual growing ironing pile all the way to the never emptying washing basket – household chores can often take over your daily schedule.
But a new report by Wren Kitchens has revealed how many calories you can burn doing daily activities – and it’s not all bad news for those looking to lose a few pounds – with cleaning your house, cooking and mopping all burning off the most calories.

The company carried out a study of 1,000 respondents to reveal the average time households spend on their daily and weekly chores in the UK.
Then, they calculated how many calories each chore would equate to over the month, as well as how many burpees you’d need to do to match the calories.
The biggest burning household chore is cleaning your house or flat, which equates to 3,976 calories a month – the equivalent of 3,340 burpees.
In second place is cooking, at 2,856 calories a month, which equates to 2, 400 burpees and mopping in third place, at 2,724 calories a month, and 2, 288 burpees.

Meanwhile, sitting at the bottom of the table is vacuuming, which burns off 1, 248 calories – the equivalent of 1, 048 burpees.
This is closely following by sweeping floors and making the bed, which burns off 1, 305 and 1, 313 calories, respectively.
But be warned, the calories burnt vary depending on a person’s weight, so all calculations have been based on the average weight of a person being 156 pounds.
If you weigh more, then you’ll burn more calories, however if you weigh less, you’ll burn less.
