Is it just me …Or is a gap-toothed smile sexier than perfect teeth? asks SIMON MILLS
- Simon Mills says a girl’s midline diastema is attractive to red-blooded men
- He was heart broken to learn that Dakota Johnson corrected the gap in her teeth
- He says Madonna and Brigitte Bardot should never surrender to braces
Posing on the red carpet at the premiere of her new movie this summer, Dakota Johnson broke into a smile . . . and broke my heart.
Her grin revealed newly minted Californian dentistry; the gap in her front teeth — that delightful imperfection — now corrected.
Bereft and inconsolable at this bland amelioration, I re-watched a charming film short of Dakota putting various items — paper clip, 11 $100 bills, credit card etc. — in between her front teeth to remind me of the Fifty Shades Of Grey star’s happy gappy years.
You see, for a robust and red-blooded man, a girl’s midline diastema is very, very sexy.
Simon Mills revealed his disappointment over Dakota Johnson’s (pictured in 2012) decision to correct the gap in her front teeth
Women with gappy teeth are the stuff of wayward, nouvelle vague film fantasies; the sort of girls who could get a nice, sensible man into serious trouble. A girl with what the French call les dents de la chance (lucky teeth) will be insolent, passionate, promiscuous and mischievous. In turns, delirious and tempestuous, lush, divine and impossible — like Beatrice Dalle in Betty Blue.
Madonna, Vanessa Paradis, Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin should never surrender to the train-track or Invisalign. Yes, gap-toothed models such as Lauren Hutton, Lara Stone and Georgia May Jagger have all been tempted, but wisely, not yet succumbed.
‘I like the fact I have good old-fashioned British teeth with a big gap,’ says Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall’s daughter. ‘Who wants those gleaming white, cosmetically enhanced American teeth?’
The good news is that Dakota Johnson is getting a new retainer and her celebrated, sexy diastema is set for a comeback. So vive les dents de la chance!
