Slip, slop and suit in Summer Bay

In the working life of Home and Away actors, formal suits are rarely required, with oiled chest the ratings bait, but Nicholas Cartwright and Luke Van Os (in suits from Theodore) and Matt Evans (in a suit from Belance) wear them well.

A shirt was a step too far for Evans, who followed the Hollywood trend of putting pectorals on show.

The three actors were dressed remotely by Logie Awards styling veteran Donny Galella, operating from Zoom while on holiday in Italy.

Galella’s predictions for women on the red carpet will be larger-than-life gowns now the event is in Sydney.

“With recent Logies happening in Queensland you had to factor in carrying gowns on a plane,” Galella says. “This year being in Sydney you are not restricted with size, so we will see big gowns.”

Who will win the Gold Logie?

Look, it’s hard to say, but Hamish Blake seems probable, Sonia Kruger seems possible, and Leigh Sales hangs in with a longshot.

Hamish Blake is the bookies’ favourite, not to mention the incumbent, leading a field that includes Julia Morris, Mark Coles Smith, Osher Gunsberg, and Shaun Micallef.

Should Blake win the Gold Logie tonight, he would join former Hey Hey It’s Saturday host Daryl Somers and comedian Rove McManus as one of three men to win TV’s top prize three times.

However, Channel Seven has been campaigning hard for Sonia Kruger to take out the gong, and given it’s been eight years since a woman won the Gold Logie, perhaps the time has come. Change is in the air this year, after all.

Host with the most? Sam Pang first Logies host in 11 years

There’s a lot of change afoot at this year’s TV Week Logie Awards. After a few years on the Gold Coast, the ceremony has relocated to Sydney, with Channel Seven taking over broadcast duties from Channel Nine (the publishers of this masthead).

But arguably the most exciting change is that for the first time in 11 years, the Logies has a solo host in Sam Pang.

Have you been paying attention? Sam Pang is hosting tonight’s Logies.

Familiar to audiences from his role on Channel 10 quiz show Have You Been Paying Attention? Pang was a highlight during last year’s ceremony and promptly got the nod from Logies organisers to take on hosting duties.

Shane Bourne was the last solo host of the Logies back in 2011, and since then, the ceremony has ditched the host in favour of a series of presenters. Pang has already flagged that several high-profile stars should expect a roasting, telling News.com.au that former Sunrise host David Koch and reigning Gold Logie winner Hamish Blake are both in his sights.

“Kochie has just retired after 21 years, so I’d like to pay a proper tribute to him,” said Pang. “And Hamish is the reigning Gold Logie winner, so he’ll probably get a mention.”

There will also be several high-profile presenters on the night, including Celeste Barber, Colin Fassnidge, Grant Denyer, Joel Creasey, Kylie Gillies, Larry Emdur, Lynne McGranger, Matt Shirvington, Natalie Barr, Poh Ling Yeow, Samantha Armytage, Sophie Monk and Tony Armstrong.

And the nominees are…
