My binge-eating has gotten worse during lockdown – what is wrong with me?

DEAR DEIDRE:  “THE diet starts tomorrow” is my mantra but that day never comes.

I’m in the supermarket when it opens. I buy rubbish food and binge-eat all day.

I’ve been so much worse in lockdown. I have food all over the place, eat snacks when I’m not hungry then feel sad and disappointed in myself – so I eat more.

At the end of the day I panic because there is still food in the fridge so I eat it all. I then head out to buy more ten minutes after my alarm goes off in the morning. I feel ashamed and fat and ugly and I hate myself.

I never eat in front of anyone and hide food if my mum comes over or the postman rings the bell.

I’m a grown woman of 32. What is wrong with me?

DEIDRE SAYS: You are suffering from an eating disorder so please stop blaming yourself.

There is support and understanding out there to help you be well again.

If you look back you may be able to see when and why this started. Maybe food was your comfort during difficult times when you were younger.

Do not try to resolve this with willpower alone. Find understanding through Beat, who help people with any eating disorder (, 0808 801 0677).
