My boyfriend split up with me when I got pregnant and demanded I have an abortion

DEAR DEIDRE:  WHEN I got pregnant, my boyfriend ended our relationship.

He demanded I have a termination though he knows I don’t believe in abortion and wouldn’t be able to go through with it.

We met a year ago. I’m 26, he’s 28.

I was on the Pill and taking it regularly but missed my period one month.

I did a test and told him at once.

We’d had a scare before and I’d said then I’d never be able to have an abortion.

But he immediately demanded I have a termination.

When I told him I stood by my beliefs, he broke it off, saying it wasn’t a route he could follow me down.

I’m now six months pregnant. He wants nothing to do with us and says he’ll give us his parental rights.

DEIDRE SAYS: I am sorry. Being pregnant makes you vulnerable and anxious but you can’t force him to stay.

Remind him none of this is the baby’s fault.

Never mind his “rights”. He has a legal duty to help support his child financially – and a moral one to be actively involved as a loving dad.
