Netflix Orders Comedy Starring Jamie Foxx Inspired By Relationship With Daughter

According to Variety, Netflix has ordered a new comedy series starring Jamie Foxx titled Dad Stop Embarrassing Me, which is inspired by the actor’s relationship with his daughter, Corinne Foxx. The series will co-star David Alan Grier, Kyla-Drew, Porscha Coleman, and Jonathan Kite, as well as Heather Hemmens and Valente Rodriguez. Foxx and Grier worked together on In Living Color from 1991 to 1994.

Foxx and his daughter currently co-star on the Fox competition series Beat Shazam, which Foxx hosts and Corinne deejays. The actor, who previously starred in The Jamie Foxx Show at The WB, which he co-created with Bentley Kyle Evans, the showrunner and executive producer of Dad Stop Embarrassing Me, has mostly worked in films since the late 1990s.

In 1999, he appeared in Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday, which co-starred Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, and Dennis Quaid. In 2001, Foxx played Drew Bundini Brown, Muhammad Ali’s assistant trainer and cornerman, in the film Ali for which Will Smith was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor. Three years later, Foxx won the Academy Award for Best Actor for playing Ray Charles in the biopic Ray. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor that same year for his role in Collateral.

Foxx’s other film roles include Jarhead, Django Unchained, Dreamgirls, Law Abiding Citizen, and Baby Driver. In addition to co-creating The Jamie Foxx Show, Evans’ past credits include shows like Martin, The Orlando Jones Show, Meet the Browns, Family Time, and Love That Girl!

Foxx recently starred in Project Power, directed by Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Dominique Fishback, which was released on August 14, 2020, by Netflix. On June 19, 2020, Foxx revealed that he would be playing former boxer Mike Tyson in the biographical drama Finding Mike when he posted a series of photos on Instagram that documented the start of his physical transformation into the boxer. Last year, Foxx appeared as George Jefferson in Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s All in the Family and The Jeffersons on ABC.
