Transgender star Elliot Page has reportedly filed for divorce from their wife Emma Portner, less than two months after the Umbrella Academy actor publicly came out.
Elliot, 33, is understood to have filed legal documentation with a court in Manhattan, according to TMZ, seeking to dissolve their three-year marriage to the 26-year-old professional dancer, who publicly supported her partner’s decision to come out as transgender back in December.
However days after Emma expressed her ‘pride’ over Elliot’s statement, she deleted her Instagram account temporarily – although it has since been reactivated. Both she and Elliot have removed all images of one another from their respective accounts.

Moving on: Elliot (pictured in their most recent Instagram post), 33, tied the knot with Emma in a secret ceremony at the start of 2018, around six months after they began dating
The former couple are also still following one another on the social media app.
DailyMail.com has reached out to a spokesperson for comment.
Before deleting her account, Emma made a public plea for ‘patience and privacy’, and made clear that her own ‘gender identity, pronouns, and sexuality’ are ‘private and not up for debate’.
Elliot last addressed the public in a statement shared on their Instagram account on December 20, when the actor thanked their fans for their support over their decision to come out.
‘From the bottom of my heart, thank you,’ Elliot wrote, while sharing an image of themselves posing in a black hoodie and wire-framed glasses.
‘Your love and support has been the greatest gift. Stay safe. Be there for each other.’
Emma has shared a handful of posts on her account since reactivating it early in the new year, however she has not addressed her relationship with Elliot since December, instead sharing two dance videos, and two tongue-in-cheek selfies that see her posing with a potato.
Despite removing images of Elliot from her Instagram, Emma still has a copy of the actor’s coming out statement posted on her account, along with the statement of support and pride she shared at the time it was released.
In the post, she wrote: ‘I am so proud of @elliotpage. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world.
‘I also ask for patience & privacy [and] that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.’
She also commented on Elliot’s Instagram post, writing: ‘Love you so much elliot.’
It is unclear why Emma chose to delete her Instagram account in the days after Elliot came out, however it was suspected at the time that the decision may have come as a result of the influx of hateful comments targeted at the Juno actor in the wake of their statement.
In the light of the couple’s divorce news, it may well be that Emma chose to take a step back from the public eye while dealing with her relationship in private.
Elliot and Emma have been together since 2017, and they wed in a secret ceremony in early 2018.
They kept their nuptials very much under wraps, with Elliot sharing the surprise news with their fans in an Instagram post shared on January 3 of that year.
Evolution in public: Elliot publicly came out as gay in 2014, and reports first surfaced that the star was dating Emma in 2017, six months before they wed
Emotional: Reports that the couple are divorcing come less than two months after Emma offered public words of support for her spouse, writing, ‘Shine on sweet E. Love you so much’
Clarification: She later made clear on Instagram that her own ‘gender identity, pronouns, and sexuality are private and not up for debate’
‘Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife. @emmaportner,’ the actor wrote at the time, while sharing images of the duo posing together – as well as a photo of their wedding rings.
Emma shared the same pictures on her own account, while writing: ‘I get to call this incredible woman MY WIFE! I LOVE YOU!’
Throughout their relationship, the couple kept their romance closely guarded, appearing together at a handful of events, and sharing a few photos together on social media – although those have now been deleted.
In one of their more candid moments, Elliot and Emma posted together for a topless photo that the Juno star posted in celebration of Pride Month 2019.
Prior to their relationship, Juno star Elliot had been linked to several different partners, both male and female, including Big Little Lies star Alexander Skarsgård and actress Shailene Woodley – although their romance was never confirmed.
The actor also dated artist Samantha Thomas for 18 months, with the couple splitting just months before Elliot tied the knot with Emma.
Elliot came out publicly as gay in 2014 in an emotional speech at the Human Rights Campaign’s Time to Thrive conference for LGTBQ youth.
In the speech, the actor shared that he hoped his news would help others struggling with their sexuality, saying: ‘I’m here today because I am gay. And because maybe I can make a difference.’
Distance: Elliot and Emma (pictured in 2017) have not been seen together in public since early in 2020
Under wraps: The couple has been fairly private throughout their relationship, but shared this revealing romantic shot on social media in celebration of Pride Month 2019
Three years later, in November 2017, Elliot accused X-Men director Brett Ratner of outing him as gay on set, when the actor was just 18.
The Juno actor made the allegations in a lengthy Facebook post, in which he also revealed that he had been fondled by a director and was sexually assaulted by a crew member when he was 16.
According to Elliot, Ratner outed him during a cast and crew meet-and-greet for X-Men: The Last Stand, where he urged a woman to have sex with the actor.
‘He looked at a woman standing next to me, ten years my senior, pointed to me and said: “You should f*** her to make her realize she’s gay,”‘ Elliot claimed.
‘I was a young adult who had not yet come out to myself. I knew I was gay, but did not know, so to speak. I felt violated when this happened.’
He continued: ‘He “outed” me with no regard for my well-being, an act we all recognize as homophobic.
‘…This public, aggressive outing left me with long standing feelings of shame, one of the most destructive results of homophobia.’
Coming out: Elliot took to Twitter on December 1 to publicly share the news that he is transgender
Changes: Elliot also updated his social media accounts, changing his usernames, and adding a new profile picture (above) to his Twitter and Instagram
Looking ahead: The actor is preparing to begin filming for the third season of Netflix hit The Umbrella Academy, and insiders have revealed he will continue to play female violinist Vanya
Breakthrough: Elliot first found fame for starring as a pregnant teenager in the hit 2007 movie Juno, for which he earned an Oscar nomination
