The ‘Havana Moon’ guitarist sparked concern among his fans after he passed out mid-concert at the Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkson, but he was alert when being wheeled away from stage.
AceShowbiz –Carlos Santana has just given his fans a scare. The legendary musician suddenly fell ill during a concert in Michigan on Tuesday night, July 5, but his team has since assured that he is “doing well” after receiving treatment.
The guitarist was performing at the Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkson, an outdoor venue on the edge of Detroit, that night. About 20 minutes into his set, the 74-year-old passed out onstage, prompting medical staffers to sprint to the stage.
“Medical personnel on stage. Crowd asked to pray for him because of a ‘serious medical’ issue,” Roop Raj of local Fox 2 Detroit tweeted. Music journalist Gary Graff added that Santana “was taken offstage on stretcher 20 minutes after collapsing.”
A video taken and shared by a concertgoer shows Santana being wheeled away from stage. The musician was alert and waved to the crowd as the crew held a black tarp to cover him while he was removed from the stage.
Santana’s manager Michael Vrionis later said the guitarist “was over-taken by heat exhaustion and dehydration during a concert Tuesday at the Pine Knob Music Theatre.” He “was taken to the emergency department at McLaren Clarkston for observation and is doing well.”
In the aftermath of his onstage collapse, his planned show at The Pavilion at Star Lake in Washington County, Pennsylvania on Wednesday has been postponed to a later date.
Back in December 2021, Santana underwent a heart procedure that forced him to cancel several Las Vegas shows planned for that month. “Just wanted to share with you some clarity with specificity what’s been going on with my physicality,” he said in a video message at the time. “There’s been rumors flying around here and there about this and that. So, I’m here to just crystallize and make it clear. Last Saturday I had an incident where I asked my wife Cindy to take me to the hospital ’cause I had this thing happening in my chest.”
“So, when we went there we found out that I needed to take care of it,” the 10-time Grammy winner further detailed. “So I am, and so I’m going to be taking time out for a little bit to make sure I replenish and I rest and catch up with my health so that when I play for you I would play the way I’m used to and give you 150 percent. I wouldn’t show up unless I can do that.”
“So other than that, I hope you and your family are enjoying good health, peace of mind, and joy. I know I will. Thank you for being a fan, and your oneness, and your caring. Peace,” he concluded his statement.
