David Spade, a prominent member of the entertainment industry, has gone ahead and donated a whopping $100,000 to the mental health charity known as NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Health)
He did this was because his sister in law, Kate Spade, passed away on June 5, 2018. She reportedly died of suicide and was suffering from depression and anxiety for many years, according to Kate’s now-widowed husband, Andy Spade.
The donation is going to do far more than just make David look good. According to People, it is going to allow NAMI to aid the people that need mental health services the most. Funding for these organizations isn’t always as sufficient as many think it should be, and donations certainly allow them to increase productivity and efficiency when dealing with issues regarding mental health. The funding could actually save someone’s life and that’s why David has put a ton of cash towards this particular organization. He simply doesn’t want people to feel the same pain that he’s feeling right now.
What this donation means is that David Spade does not want anyone else that knows of someone who suffers from mental health issues to lose them because of personal demons. It’s a dark reality that many are familiar with, but don’t speak up about it.
Her death has brought on a lot of support for anyone who is having dark thoughts. The world of mental health is strange, and the people who suffer from the many different types of mental illnesses often find themselves being stigmatized by the people around them.
The stigma regarding mental illness is no secret and has actually been going on for years now. However, the efforts of people like David and Andy Spade are just another way of trying to prevent the worst from happening to other people down the line.
“More people suffer from mental health issues than we may realize but no one should ever feel ashamed to reach out for support,” says David Spade. “If you or anyone you know is in need of help or guidance please contact the national suicide prevention hotline at 800-273-8255 or go to nami.org to learn more and help those who may be in need.”
Whatever the case may be, the death of Kate Spade has created a world of sadness for many people. Her death has also created a sense of motivation to donate and try to help anyone who suffers from a mental illness.
