Demi Lovato isn’t shying away from her near-death experience the night of her 2018 drug overdose. Her four-part YouTube Originals docuseries, Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, recounts the night she relapsed after six years of sobriety. The doc title is also the name of her recent single from her new album, Dancing with the Devil… the Art of Starting Over. The music video depicts what happened the night of the overdose and Demi admits that it was difficult to shoot.
“Creating the music video for #DancingWithTheDevil was not the easiest shoot I’ve ever done… 🤍 I create my art to heal, and to inspire others,” Demi captions a post of a clip from the video. “I’m here today and I’m happy you are too.”

Demi almost didn’t survive that night. Doctors told her that she had three strokes, one heart attack and that she has 5 to 10 more minutes to live before she received help. After breaking her sobriety, one event led to another and she ended up in serious danger.
“I picked up a bottle of red wine [one] night, and it wasn’t even 30 minutes before I called someone that had drugs on them,” she says in the series. “I’m surprised that I didn’t OD that night. I ended up at a party and ran into my old drug dealer from six years before. That night I did drugs I had never done before. I’m really lucky to be alive.”
