Smooth Radio have asked their listeners what they think the greatest song of all time is, and after almost 30,000 votes and a countdown from 500, their choice was revealed.
So, when you’ve got decades of music, with so many songs that will have soundtracked many important moments for so many people over the years, what do Smooth’s listeners pick?
‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran. A song that only got released last year.
It’s hard to criticise since these are people’s opinions but… the greatest song? Of all time? Come on now people.
So what other, actually iconic and timeless, songs made the list at lower positions than a track that isn’t even one of Sheeran’s best?
‘Your Song’ by Elton John, a song that has been covered innumerable times and is a wedding staple, even for Kate and William, only managed 40th place.
Next to actual best song of all time ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ is the song that makes anyone and everyone join in for a good old bellowing session. It didn’t even crack Smooth’s top 30 (sad face emoji):
This is a crime against humanity. ‘Life on Mars’ made the top 10 so that’s something:
Do you see what we mean when we say people are wrong?
Is it us? Are we so out of touch?
