Ex BBC Breakfast presenter Steph McGovern gives birth to baby girl

Steph McGovern has given birth to her first child – a baby girl – and announced the exciting news on Twitter.

The telly host tweeted: "Well hello world, just surfaced to let you know that we now have a daughter!

"Born on Monday morning just as BBC Breakfast was wrapping up. We're all fine and dandy. Just getting used to the eau de sick/poo I am now regularly wearing."

The BBC star finished the cute yet funny message with the hashtag "baby life".

The Middlesborough-born gal has been inundated with well wishes from her followers.

Strictly's Mike Bushell replied: "Wow wow. This is the most amazing news. Huge love and congratulations and bet she's just gorgeous. Hope all going well and you're getting the odd bit of sleep. Baby joy."

And Dragons Den star Theo Paphitis said: "Congratulations Steph and a big welcome to your new addition!"

The 37-year-old welcomed the child with her TV executive girlfriend, however she has never shared her partner's identity.

Steph confirmed the pregnancy in July on Twitter, writing: "Yep, I am no longer with pot belly… I am now with child."

At the time, a source told the Sun on Sunday: "Steph and her girlfriend are absolutely thrilled.

"Everyone at the Beeb is delighted too – she is one of the most popular faces on and off the red sofa.

"But she won't be doing any magazine shoots any time soon – she values her privacy too much."

Just last month, Steph stepped away from BBC Breakfast after eight years on the early morning show.

Following her maternity leave, she will host her own Channel 4 series called The Steph Show.

Speaking of her exit, the northern lass tweeted: "Eee, well what a couple of days! Thank you so much for all the kind messages.

"It's been a bit overwhelming and given I'm due to give birth any day now, I thought I better take a day or two before I tweet.

"First up, I want to thank BBC Breakfast… my home for over eight years. It's mushy, but the wonderful team on the show have been an extended family to me."

She continued: "From the tech gang who make sure you can hear and see us, the production posse who make sure I am in the right place at the right time, the makeup artists who make sure I don't look like a clip (Boro phrase), and the super-sharp producers who carefully craft the stories that we cover, working all hours of the day and night. They have looked after me through thick and thin, and made me sound and look much better than I really am."

Steph then went on to thank her co-presenters, including Piers Morgan's rival Dan Walker.
