Football legend Diego Maradona rushed to hospital after giving middle finger on live TV at World Cup

What happens in the stands is usually no match to the action on the pitch, but that’s never the case when Diego Maradona is involved.

Up to his usual tricks, the footballing legend thrilled fans with a typically over-the-top – and sweary – celebration as Argentina scored against Nigeria in today’s (June 26) vital group game.

It was touch-and-go for Argentina, as Nigeria equalised in the second half, but the team eventually stormed to a 2-1 victory – much to Maradona’s delight.

Not content with almost launching himself over the barriers in the stadium while celebrating Lionel Messi and Marcos Rojo’s goals, Maradona also flipped the bird in glee. Twice.

Cue the memes:

It’s now being reported that Maradona has been rushed to hospital after almost collapsing following Argentina’s win.

In a video clip being shared on social media, the 57-year-old can be seen needing help from the stands. According to ESPN, he was treated by paramedics before being taken away by an ambulance.

In other World Cup news, BBC Sport’s Gabby Logan showed her support for the England team and threw shade at US First Lady Melania Trump in one fell swoop last week.

Viewers were initially puzzled by Gabby’s choice of a khaki coat during coverage of Iceland v Nigeria, until she turned her back to the camera at the end of the show.

Football’s coming home, everyone. Haven’t you heard?

The World Cup fun (or frustration) will continue for England when they play Belgium on Thursday (June 28). You can find out when, where and how to watch it right here.
