Janet Street-Porter, 75, has said that Helen Skelton's anticipated appearance on Strictly Come Dancing after a marriage split makes her seem "too needy".

The Countryfile presenter, 39, confirmed her breakup from husband Richie Myler after nine years of marriage earlier this year and, according to reports, Helen wants to use the glamorous opportunity to "bounce back".

Former Blue Peter star Helen’s rumoured Strictly casting was the inspiration behind one of the topics discussed on Wednesday's (August 10) edition of the ITV show between presenters Christine Lampard, Coleen Nolan, Denise Welch and Janet.

Janet said: "Helen Skelton said this, that she’s looking for love on a TV show."

To which Coleen replied: "She’s talking about the Strictly curse. And good on her, if I ever get Strictly and that curse doesn’t hit me, I’m voting myself off."

Janet added: "It just makes me anxious for her that she’s revealed too much, she sounds too needy.

"The last place I would look for love would be on a TV show. Most people are absolutely desperate to avoid the Strictly curse but Helen would love it to give her some confidence back."

Helen announced she and rugby player Richie had split in April, four months after welcoming their third child together, with the sportsman said to have linked up with new girlfriend Stephanie Thirkill.

The Strictly cast of 2022 currently includes singer Matt Goss, comedian Ellie Taylor, Kiss radio host Tyler West, comedian actress Jayde Adams, Coronation Street actors Will Mellor and Kym Marsh, Loose Women star Kaye Adams, paralympian Ellie Simmonds and Radio 2’s Richie Anderson, while pop ace Molly Rainford and football legend Tony Adams were the latest stars to be named.

It comes after Helen hinted at her return to the show 10 years after appearing on the Christmas special of the hit dance competition.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Helen previously said: “It’s one of those shows I think that is such a, you know, in terms of a telly gig, it’s the biggest and the best.

“I think anybody who works in telly would find it very difficult how to say no to it.”
