Fans find it odd to see the ‘Let Me Love You’ crooner teaming up with the rapper considering the fact that he once showed support to Megan Thee Stallion following the shooting incident involving the two.
AceShowbiz –Mario didn’t get a warm welcome after announcing a collaboration with Tory Lanez. Instead of enthusing fans with news of their upcoming project, the “Let Me Love You” crooner found himself being dragged on social media over his announcement.
The 35-year-old crooner promoted his and Tory’s joint single “Main One” via Twitter on Instagram. YOOOOOO it’s #MARIOMONDAY! This Friday 7/15 I’m dropping something special wit my brother @torylanez !” he captioned the IG post. “I got TOOOO MUCH MUSIC I been holding on to LET’s GOOOOO! #MAINONE.”
Fans couldn’t help but express their disappointment in the comment section. One person in particular replied, “I’ve been waiting on new music from you but why did it have to be with Tory??” Another argued, “Imma wait to the next song drop… I ain’t jamming this!!”
A third individual made a reference to the shooting incident involving Tory and
Megan Thee Stallion]. “Black women are the ones who kept you relevant and you go and work with a man who shot a Black woman? you bout to learn!” said the user. Someone else fumed, “yikes, just when I thought you loved Black Women smh.”
It’s not surprising that people were upset upon learning of the news. In August 2020, Mario encouraged Tory, who has been accused of shooting Megan in the leg, to “learn how to control our ego” in the wake of the incident.
“This @theestallion & @torylanez situation got me in awe,” he tweeted at that time. “Sad AF? Knowing Tory personally this s**t crazy to me. Black men we gotta learn how to control our ego, anger etc. at some point the switch gotta turn off! Protect black women! Heal black men Love & respect each other!”
Mario, however, seemingly has responded to the backlash in the Monday, July 11 livestream. “As an independent artist doing his thing, it’s a lot of artists that don’t work as hard as he do so regardless of whatever, the music is what it is […] the music is what you love people for. If y’all f**k with the music, f**k with it. If you don’t, we’re just gonna keep creating,” he said.
